Terms of use
Last updated: 2026-09-01
1Scope
These terms apply to the use of Schulenatlas NRW at schulenatlas.de.
Schulenatlas is a free and publicly accessible information service about schools in North Rhine-Westphalia.
2Purpose of the service
Schulenatlas provides information about schools in North Rhine-Westphalia: search and filter functions, school profiles, comparison options, map and location details, statistical information, details on lessons and foreign languages, on international contacts and quality reports, AI-assisted guidance, and help with freedom-of-information requests.
The service is intended solely for information and orientation.
3Not an official body
Schulenatlas is not a public authority and does not replace the official services of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, of school authorities or of individual schools.
The presentation of a school does not mean that the school operates or supports this service, cooperates with it, has approved its presentation, or agrees with any particular classification.
4Currency and accuracy
Every effort is made to provide reliable and current information. Given the number of schools, frequent changes and dependence on external sources, it cannot be guaranteed that all information is complete, accurate or current at all times.
Binding information should be obtained directly from the school concerned or the competent authority.
5School profiles and classifications
A school profile brings together information from various sources and is not an official overall assessment.
Statistical information, the social index, teaching data, projects or profiles must not be understood as a complete judgement of a school's quality.
The social index describes a school's social context. It is expressly not a ranking of educational quality.
6AI features
Artificial intelligence is used for individual features, in particular the school-choice guidance and evaluations within school profiles.
Results may be incorrect, incomplete or misleading. They are neither a binding statement of fact nor advice.
The decision about choosing or applying to a school rests entirely with the user.
7Freedom-of-information requests
Prepared texts and guidance are provided. Users decide themselves whether and in what form a request is sent.
There is no assurance that an authority will reply, release a document, that a request will remain free of charge, or that it will succeed.
Responsibility for a request actually sent lies with the person making it.
If a report received is subsequently provided here, the person providing it bears sole responsibility for having fully redacted all personal data beforehand.
8Voluntarily submitted documents
Quality reports received may be shared voluntarily. Submission does not automatically lead to publication.
Submitted documents may be reviewed; publication is decided taking data protection and the source situation into account.
Before submitting, you must confirm that the document was obtained lawfully, that it has been checked for personal data, and that all protected data has been fully redacted. The person providing it is responsible for that check and redaction. The operator's statutory responsibility from the moment a legal violation becomes known remains unaffected.
Submitted documents are not reviewed legally or editorially before publication. Only a formal and technical visual check of file format, legibility and obvious misuse takes place. There is no full review of the content; approval is not a confirmation that a document has been fully redacted.
A reporting function is available for every published document. Reported content is taken offline without delay and reviewed afterwards. Liability arises only once a specific legal violation is known.
Published documents may be removed from the website at any time without stating reasons. There is no entitlement to permanent publication.
9Corrections
Errors or outdated information can be reported and will be checked where possible.
A correction is not made merely because a change is demanded. Where necessary, evidence or a verifiable source may be required.
10Permitted use
The service may be used for private, educational, academic, journalistic and other lawful information purposes.
The following are not permitted: attacks on the technical infrastructure, circumventing technical protection measures, unauthorised access to internal systems, altering data, automated access that places an excessive load on the service, attempts to obtain internal credentials, and distributing unlawful content.
11Automated access
Technical measures, in particular usage limits, may be used against abusive or excessively burdensome automated access.
A temporary restriction of individual features does not give rise to any claim to a particular level of availability.
12External links
The service contains links to external websites whose content and operation are outside our control.
No liability is accepted for third-party content. At the time of linking, no legal violations were apparent. If violations become known, the links concerned will be removed without delay.
A link does not constitute a recommendation or institutional endorsement unless expressly stated.
13References to support and aid initiatives
References to external aid and support organisations may be made voluntarily. No remuneration or commission is received for this.
Schulenatlas does not operate the linked services. The decision to support them rests solely with the user.
14Copyright and third-party rights
Content may only be used within the limits of the law. This applies to texts, graphics, databases, software, marks and other protected content.
Official and publicly accessible information may be subject to different conditions depending on the source. Public accessibility does not mean that content may be freely copied or redistributed.
Content may not be adopted in full or systematically without a legal basis and published as a service of one's own.
15Liability
The service is compiled with care. No warranty is given for the accuracy, completeness or currency of the content.
Liability for damages is limited to intent and gross negligence. Where essential contractual obligations are breached, liability also applies to ordinary negligence, but is limited to foreseeable damage typical of such agreements.
Liability for damage arising from injury to life, body or health, and liability under the German Product Liability Act, remain unaffected.
16External data sources
A substantial part of the information is based on official data, official publications, school websites and other external sources.
If those sources change, information may temporarily differ from the current situation. Continuous agreement with all external sources cannot be assured.
17Automated evaluation of school websites
Publicly accessible information on school websites is read out and evaluated automatically. Only content published there without access restrictions is captured.
The results are reviewed before being displayed. No warranty is given as to accuracy, completeness or currency. Only the school website itself is authoritative.
Schools may object to the evaluation of their website at any time. The information concerned is then removed.
18Availability
The aim is the highest possible availability. Maintenance, technical faults or outages at hosting, database or interface providers may make the service or individual features temporarily unavailable.
Permanent availability is not assured.
19Changes to the service
Features may be changed, extended, restricted or removed. In the event of substantial changes, the information on the website will be adjusted.
20Future services
The service may be developed further. This may include additional features, cooperations or paid services.
Such offerings are not part of the currently free service unless they are expressly introduced and identified as such.
21Misuse
In the event of abusive use, technical protection measures may be applied, in particular the temporary blocking of individual technical access or features. Statutory claims remain unaffected.
22Final provisions
Should individual provisions be or become invalid, the validity of the remaining provisions remains unaffected.
Mandatory statutory rights of consumers remain unaffected.
German law applies.
